“Be prepared to hit the road, the one I know well, be prepared, I will lead you there” – so sang Halina Frąckowiak several decades ago and it is these very words that DYYU∩E decided to follow on his debut album. This time, the Wrocław producer decided to go 100% on his own, offering pieces deeply immersed in Polish music of the 80s, existing at the intersection of club edits and fully-fledged original compositions. Each of the tracks on WYYDMA is autonomous, consists of several samples, and is inspired by a completely different genre. Thus, an attentive listener will find elements of synth-pop in “Szklany Klosz” and “Gra”, while “Ludzkie Piękno” successfully explores ethnic sounds, threads from the jazz fusion bucket are entangled in “Warkocz”, and “Czasu Coraz Mniej” is a full-blooded italo disco joint with a Slavic twist. WYYDMA is also a nod to beautiful female voices, the synthetic sound of drum machines and all sorts of electronic experiments. All these elements constitute an album which is an homage to the 80s. What is worth mentioning here is that ALL the samples used in the tracks originate from Polish compositions ONLY, and what is more, the lion’s share comes from the above mentioned period. So, are you prepared to hit the road?
