German minimal maestro Thomas Melchior returns with his first release in nearly four years and in the process, inaugurates new imprint My King Is Light. Melchior brings his idiosyncratic sound as always on these three deeply meditative cuts, taking in seriously hypnotic and groovy elements – all in the pursuit of the perfect loop. “Crown” is perfectly suited to the afterhours (a Melchior specialty), from the exotic charm of “Love” with its romantic guitar harmonies backed by murmuring tones and sparsely swung percussion, to the bumping reductionist funk of “Fighter” – which really got us moving! On the flip, “Gimme That Stuff” is a more sombre affair, yet so full of the spiritual, arcane and transcendental qualities you’ve come to know and love from the veteran producer.
